3Dex: Towards a Legal Framework for AI-Based 3D Modeling from Visual Evidence

Sébastien Meeùs co-authored “3Dex: Towards a Legal Framework for AI-Based 3D Modeling from Visual Evidence” with Raphaël Pittet, Doan Gia Huy Vu, Thomas Walther, Franck Michael Atongfor Nguessong and Karim Benyekhlef. The paper was presented at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law (ICAIL 2026).
The contribution proposes a legal framework for analysing the use of artificial intelligence systems that generate three-dimensional models from visual evidence. It examines, in particular, human perceptions of these transformations and the conditions governing their use in judicial contexts.
Produced as part of the VIRAJ project (Virtualisation and Augmentation of Justice) at the Université de Montréal’s Cyberjustice Laboratory, the paper is forthcoming in the ICAIL 2026 proceedings published by ACM.
