Ian Haney López will deliver a lecture on his most recent book « Dog Whistle Politics : How Coded Racial Appeals Have Reinvented Racism and Wrecked the Middle Class”. This book discusses how conservative politicians exploit racial pandering in the US to convince many voters to support policies that ultimately favor the very rich and hurt everyone else.
Ian Haney López is the John H. Boalt Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. He is one of the leading thinkers on how racism has evolved in the United States since the civil rights era. He was one of five recipients of the Alphonse Fletcher, Sr., Fellowship in 2011 which recognizes “scholars, writers and artists whose work contributes to improving race relations in American society and furthers the broad social goals of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown v.
