Description

Prof. Tigroudja will participate to the experts workshop on the UN Accountability and International Law at the School of Law of Seton Hall University on October 19, 2017

The protection and enforcement of human rights and respect for the rule of law are central to the mandate of the United Nations (UN). Yet, there have been prominent instances in which human rights violations have occurred during UN operations that have never been remedied.

This experts workshop will explore the liability of International Organizations for international wrongs, as well address direct, indirect or shared responsibility. It will offer a detailed examination of accountability, and what models of external and internal international dispute resolution currently exist, and should exist in the future. In light of the recent suggestion that victims of international wrongs should be made whole by charitable contributions, it will also discuss redress and compensation for victims of international wrongs.

The workshop will conclude with a wine and cheese reception, and a launch of the new book Research Handbook on UN Sanctions and International Law.
