Biography
Ana has a PhD in law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Her thesis “Discrimination in Online Platforms : A Comparative Law Approach to Design, Intermediation and Data Challenges” was supervised by Isabelle Rorive. A 2015 recipient of the CAPES foundation grant, her doctoral research was at the intersection of law and technology focusing on the ethical governance of private companies on the topic of discrimination. Her research centered on algorithmic and designed discrimination and aimed to determine whether Europe and Member States law are equipped to address discrimination in the provision of goods and services online. Her sources included private company practices, private anti-discrimination policies, collective and private litigation, court decisions, public regulation at the EU and some Member State levels.
Ana holds a Law Master Degree from the Université Aix-Marseille III (France) and studied European Human Rights at the European University Institute (Italy).
Ana has been visiting lecturer at Université Libre de Bruxelles in the Comparative Law Course & at Goethe Universitat Frankfurt in the Global Law Theories course. She curates Internet governance developments for Geneva Internet Platform/ Digital Watch Observatory. She is member of the Council for European Studies and the Internet Society Association. She coordinated the Equality Law Clinic at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2016-2017.
